WETT Inspection Reports

If you currently heat your home (completely or partially) with wood, it is in your best interest to have your system inspected by a Wood Energy Technical Transfer (WETT) specialist.

In fact, most insurance companies today require a WETT inspection report to honor your policy.

A WETT Inspection will ensure that your system is installed and operating correctly, and that it poses no threat to your home and family.

There are a variety of reasons an inspection is requested. These may include:

  • Insurance company requested an inspection

  • Pre-purchase home inspection purposes

  • System performance issue

  • Visable signs of damage

A WETT inspection is an inspection that must be conducted by an inspector who is WETT certified.  While a typical home inspection includes a visual inspection of the fireplace, chimney and hearth, a WETT inspection, conducted by a certified inspector, includes a visual non intrusive inspection of all the elements of any wood burning technologies in the home to make sure that they are installed correctly and are installed with compliance to building codes and regulations. It should also include a visit to the roof, when safe to do so, to examine the chimney for any potential structural or ventilation issues.
